AZERBAIJANI WRESTLERS RANK SECOND IN INTERNATIONAL TOURNAMENT
International junior and youth Greco-Roman wrestling tournament finished in Saint Petersburg. Azerbaijani sport club “Locomotive” joined 150 athletes of 12 teams representing Ukraine, Belarus, Latvia and Russian regions in the fight for medals.
The club was led by senior coach Mursal Gafarov. 6 athletes out of 8 became medallists. Orhan Jabbarly (53 kg) and Murad Huseynov (55 kg) won gold medals. Farhad Aydinly (42 kg), Farid Agaverdiyev (55 kg), Zaur Islamzadeh (70 kg) and Nurlan Rasulov (80 kg) became bronze medallists. In the team event, Azerbaijan team ranked second. Wrestlers from Saint Petersburg ranked first while Moscow athletes ranked third.
Azerbaijani referee Atil Huseynov was among match controllers.
“Locomotive” wrestlers will compete in the international tournament for schoolchildren in January 2006 in Moscow.
