Azerbaijan`s permanent representative to UN participates at 14th meeting of CARICOM
Baku, May 7 (AZERTAC). Azerbaijan`s permanent representative to the United Nations Agshin Mehdiyev attended the 14th meeting of the Caribbean Community and Common Market`s (CARICOM) Council for Foreign and Community Relations (COFCOR) in Saint-Kitts and Nevis on May 4-5.
Addressing the meeting, Agshin Mehdiyev said Azerbaijan is continuing the boosting cooperation with Caribbean countries. He stressed the importance of dialogue and development of cooperation, having mutual interest for both sides.
Azerbaijani diplomat informed participants on Azerbaijan`s development, economic growth and accomplishments achieved in the country.
He underlined that as a result of targeted reforms, application of national development strategies and long economic policy, from economic point of view, Azerbaijan is recognized worldwide as one of the fastest developing countries.
Agshin Mehdiyev also provided information on Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, which has been continuing for more than 20 years and imposes threats to the regional peace, and the occupation of Azerbaijani lands by Armenia.
Mr. Mehdiyev held bilateral meetings with Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, the General Secretary of CARICOM, Foreign Minister of Grenada and current chairman of CARİCOM, foreign ministers of Saint Kitts and Nevis and Trinidad and Tobago during the visit.
The meetings featured exchange of views on deepening bilateral relations, prospects of cooperation, promoting the use of existing capacities and identify priority areas and the necessity of greater convergence of positions on the international level.
