“Azerenergy” Public Corporation Management has granted a large batch of sports outfit and equipment to Mingachevir sportsmen, with special attention paid to the children, the press-service of “Azerenergy” reported. The acquisition of lightened basketball shields, volleyball nets, sport clothes and shoes will attract thousands of children to the sport and physical culture, and help to form new sport schools.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Azerenergy’s president Etibar Pirverdiyev noted that the city of Mingachevir is considered as one of the recognized sport centers of Azerbaijan. For the last years, plenty of titled sportsmen successfully representing Azerbaijan in the international competitions, world championships ans Olympic games have been grown up here. Bronze winner of the Sydney Games boxer Vugar Alakbarov is a striking example of this.

Providing considerable assistance in development of rowing in Azerbaijan, the training base “Kur” for many long years has played a major role in sport life of the country. For the time being, however, this sport center, which had been placed in view of the known causes at the disposal refugees, needs major repairs. The implementation of the relevant decision made at the initiative of the President of the National Olympic Committee, will start in October, 2003 right after the building of 412 houses settlement for refugees is completed.

The Mingachevir sportsmen resolutely stated they would vote in the upcoming presidential election for the faithful son of the Azerbaijani people Heydar Aliyev and his steady course of building democratic and secular state.
