Azeri ambassador meets Libyan rector
Baku, February 3 (AZERTAC). Azerbaijani ambassador to Libya Agasalim Shukurov met with rector of the University of Sirt Mohammad Abdulhamid Abdulrahman.
During the meeting, the diplomat briefed the rector on the geography, history and culture of Azerbaijan. Shukurov said Azerbaijan is an oil-rich, predominantly Muslim, Turkish-speaking and secular state.
The ambassador also provided insight into peace talks on Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
Shukurov pointed out political course of national leader Heydar Aliyev is successfully continued by President Ilham Aliyev. He touched on the Azerbaijan` increasing prestige in the international arena, country`s economic expansion, adding Azerbaijan is recognized as a political and economic leader in the region.
Ambassador underlined opening of Azerbaijan`s embassy in Libya is an important step for development of relations between the countries. He stressed the need to strengthen friendly and cooperative relations in all spheres.
The parties also found the need to expand educational and cultural ties between Azerbaijan and Libya. They discussed prospects for development of cooperation among higher educational institutions.
Shukurov presented books about Azerbaijan to the rector.
