Azeri MPs to head for Paris to participate in PACE events
Baku, March 7 (AZERTAC). Chairman of the Milli Majlis standing committee for international relations and interparliamentary ties, head of the Azerbaijani delegation to the PACE Samad Seyidov and MP Sabir Hajiyev will leave for Paris Tuesday to attend a few PACE events.
MPs will first participate in meetings of PACE committees to share their views on the reforms in the Parliamentary Assembly.
The PACE Political Affairs Committee will see discussions on “expansion of democracy by lowering the voting age to 16”, situation in Belarus, Tunis and Middle East. Participants will also hear presentations on “Increasing drug traffic from Afghanistan as a threat to European security”, “Iran’s nuclear programme: the need for an effective international response”.
Topics to be debated on the meeting of the PACE Standing Committee include an opinion on the Draft Council of Europe Convention to Prevent and Combat Violence against Women and Domestic Violence, preserving the environment in the Mediterranean, the need for a global consideration of the human rights implications of biometrics, and “Genetically modified organisms: a solution for the future?”
The parliamentarians will also discuss social measures, education and rehabilitation for young offenders as well as the situation of the inhabitants of Rhodes and Kos with a Turkish cultural background. There will also be a report on a code of conduct for rapporteurs of the Parliamentary Assembly.
