Azeri officials attend world seismologists meeting
Baku, April 12 (AZERTAC). Director of Azerbaijan`s Seismological Service Gurban Yetirmishli and chief of macro-seismic researches department Etibar Garavaliyev participated in the European Geosciences Union General Assembly 2011 in Austrian capital Vienna.
The EGU General Assembly 2010 brought together around 10,000 geoscientists from all over Europe and the rest of the world into one meeting covering all disciplines of the Earth, Planetary and Space Sciences.
Major EGU 2011 topics and debates were related to the natural environment and its current threats: natural hazards such as volcanoes, earthquakes and wildfires.
Mr. Yetirmishli delivered a report on “Calculation of seismic threat for Azerbaijan”. He briefed on seismological researches in the country and application of “Kinemetrics” stations used for the seismic monitoring and on the seismic stations which will be installed by Azerbaijan in the Caspian Sea.
Garavaliyev made a report on strong quakes felt in Azerbaijan`s territory and on macro seismic researches.
Azerbaijani officials also met with experts of different countries to establish close relations in resolution of seismological problems.
