According to AzerTAj Paris-based correspondent, the magazine “International Tribune” that comes out in France has published in its 678th issue Morris Wuals’ article under the headline “Baku – capital of black gold”. Except for some points, the article is completely dedicated to the oil industry of Azerbaijan.

The author begins his article with description of Icherisheher – evidence of ancient history of Azerbaijan. Icherisheher, he writes, was constructed in Oriental style. Ancient Baku was a small port city on the Caspian coast and then developed to a strategic point and in early XX century, it was in first ranks of world’s oil industry. The city combining elements of eastern and western architecture has turned in to the beautiful modern mega-polis which residents are friendly and hospitable.

Touching upon the history of oil industry of Azerbaijan, the author says that in the beginning of XX century Azerbaijan forged Russian Empire into the first place for oil production in the world. The “Black Gold” extracted then in Azerbaijan as a part of the Soviet Union made up the half of oil production of the country.

Azerbaijan that gained its independence in 1991 became the owner of its oil riches and under the leadership of Heydar Aliyev who returned to power in 1993 at people’s request the oil industry of Azerbaijan received a stimulus.

He also mentioned the “Contract of the Century” signed in 1994 that is to deliver Azerbaijani oil to the world markets through Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline.

The article seems to be politically slanted against export of oil but as a whole, it gives a wide idea of Azerbaijan and its oil industry.
