BAKU HOSTS MEETING ON AGRI PROJECT
Baku, September 13 (AZERTAC). A meeting of the Azerbaijani, Georgian and Romanian energy ministers has been held today here on the AGRI (Azerbaijan-Georgia-Romania Interconnector) project.
The event was attended by Azerbaijani Minister of Industry and Energy Natig Aliyev, Romanian Minister of Economy, Trade and Business Environment Ion Ariton, Georgian Energy Minister Alexander Khetaguri and representatives from Hungary.
Natig Aliyev said proposals on the project had been studied for several months. He noted a joint declaration will be signed Tuesday among Azerbaijan, Georgia and Romania on the implementation of the project. The Minister pointed out a trilateral company will be established as part of the project, as well.
Aliyev also recalled that a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on cooperation in the supply and transportation of liquefied natural gas (LNG) had been signed by the governments of the three countries on 13 April.
Romanian minister Ariton stressed the project will contribute to diversifying EU energy supplies and ensuring Europe`s energy security.
The Minister called the summit to be held Tuesday in Baku on the project as historical event.
Georgian Minister Khetaguri said the project consists of two stages - establishing a feasibility study and financing.
The Azerbaijan-Georgia-Romania Interconnector (AGRI) is a proposed project to transport Azerbaijani natural gas to Romania. Natural gas would be transported by the pipeline from Sangachal Terminal in Azerbaijan to the Kulevi Terminal at the Black Sea coast of Georgia. In Kulevi, the liquefied natural gas export terminal (LNG plant) would be built. Liquefied natural gas will be transported by LNG tankers to the Constanţa terminal in Romania. After regasification natural gas will be delivered through the existing gas grid to Romania and other European countries.
