Baku marks 104th anniversary of Türkiye’s Victory Day

On the occasion of Türkiye’s Victory Day on August 30, Turkish Ambassador to Azerbaijan Birol Akgün, along with embassy staff and other officials, visited the “Turkish Martyrdom” monument in Baku.
The officials commemorated the heroic Turkish soldiers who died in the battles for the liberation of Baku from Bolshevik-Armenian Dashnak forces in 1918 and laid a wreath at the monument.
In his remarks, Ambassador Birol Akgün stressed the historical significance of the occasion, highlighting the fraternal relations between the Azerbaijani and Turkish peoples, which continue to develop across all sectors.
The Great Offensive was launched by the Turkish Armed Forces on August 26, 1922, under the leadership of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, and ended on September 18 of the same year.
From August 26 to 30, 1922, Turkish forces fought the Battle of Dumlupınar in Türkiye’s western Kütahya province, where Greek forces were decisively defeated.
By the end of 1922, all foreign forces had left the territories that would collectively become the new Republic of Türkiye a year later.
