Baku to host International Workshop on Energy Statistics
Baku, August 31 (AZERTAC). The United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD) will jointly organize with Azerbaijan`s State Statistical Committee an International Workshop on Energy Statistics in the capital Baku.
The main objectives of the Workshop, to be held from 27 to 30 September, are to train participants on the implementation of the recommendations contained in IRES; review and discuss issues that countries face in the collection, compilation and dissemination of energy statistics; share national experiences and also contribute to the development of the Energy Statistics Compilers Manual (ESCM).
The United Nations Statistical Commission (UNSC) at its forty-second session adopted the International Recommendations for Energy Statistics (IRES). The United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD) in cooperation with the Oslo Group on Energy Statistics and the InterSecretatiat Working Group on Energy Statistics have developed IRES over the last five years.
IRES provides a complete set of recommendations covering all aspects of the statistical production process framework, from basic concepts, definitions and classifications to data sources, data compilation strategies, energy balances, data quality and statistical dissemination.
