Bulgarian newspaper publishes article “Azerbaijan-leader of Eurasia”
Baku, October 22 (AZERTAC). Bulgaria’s newspaper “Standart” has published an article by well-known journalist Lyubomir Mikhaylov, dedicated to Azerbaijan.
The article, “Azerbaijan - leader of Eurasia”, starts with comments on the recent presidential elections in Azerbaijan. The author praises the election as free, transparent and democratic. The journalist hails endeavors by the Azerbaijani authorities to hold the voting in a free and democratic atmosphere. The newspaper notes the government invited numerous international observers to monitor the electoral process and created all necessary conditions for candidates.
The article underlines that President Ilham Aliyev successfully continues the policy founded by national leader Heydar Aliyev. The author presents Azerbaijan as a country located in the junction between the East and the West, rich with oil and gas resources. The journalist says President Ilham Aliyev has played irreplaceable role in strengthening the state independence of Azerbaijan. The article says thanks to successful reforms implemented under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, Azerbaijan`s share in the economy of the South Caucasus states has reached 80 percent, making the country a leader in the region.
According to Mikhaylov, Azerbaijan is one of the fastest developing countries in the world. He calls Azerbaijan “tiger of the Caucasus” for its economic might. In last ten years, Azerbaijan`s industry has increased 3.4 times, agriculture 3.3 times, GDP 7 times, average salary 6 times, foreign trade 6.6 times, while poverty has decreased to 5 percent and over 1.2 million new jobs have been created."
The author says President Ilham Aliyev has been included in the list of the world`s wise and experienced political figures. Azerbaijan`s international achievements were also reminded in the article. The country`s becoming the UN Security Council member was described as a triumph of Azerbaijan`s foreign policy.
The article also lauds the Azerbaijani government`s care of the youth. The author hails “State Program for study of Azerbaijani youth abroad for 2007-2015s” approved by President Ilham Aliyev.
Mikhaylov praises Azerbaijan`s joining the family of the space nations with the launch of its first ever satellite “Azerspace-1”. He also writes about the first European Games to be hosted in Baku in 2015.
On Azerbaijan-Bulgaria relations, the author notes that Bulgarian language is taught at the Baku Slavic University, while students of Sofia University learn the Azerbaijani language. The article says Shaki of Azerbaijan and Gabrova of Bulgaria became sister cities, and there is a street named “Baku” in Sofia.
Mikhaylov also tells about activities of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation headed by First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva, saying the Foundation successfully realizes important projects in the fields of science, education, culture, health and sports.
The author also touches upon the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, noting that 20 percent of Azerbaijan`s lands were occupied by Armenia and that the conflict poses a huge threat to the region.
On SOCAR`s activities, the newspaper writes that the company has made investment in various countries, including Georgia, Turkey and Switzerland, and it has offices in leading cities across the world.
