BULGARIAN OBSERVERS ON PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS IN AZERBAIJAN

A group of observers from Bulgaria, representing its parliament, held a press-conference at the press center under the Central Election Commission, spoke on the presidential elections in Azerbaijan. The group’s leader Georgiy Yurikov expressed gratitude to Milli Majlis chairman and leader of the NGO “Transparent Elections” professor Arif Hashimov for invitation to partake in the elections as observers, as saying:

“We first met with Parliament chairman Murtuz Alaskarov. We learnt of the new Election Code. We were mainly interested in the Presidential elections.

While visiting 15 polling stations, we were persuaded of the code’s functionality and we firmly state that elections were held in compliance with the Election Code of Azerbaijan. We did not found any violations.

The individual’s main right is the right of choice. We found new things in the election code. First, the elector who did not findhis name in the voter’s roll can reinstate his rights through the court. The second point is the ballot for the blind. We claim that your elections were conducted in accordance with the law.

Then, Mr. Yurikov responded the journalists’ questions. Commenting the fact of beating the “Leader” TV journalist he noted that he is against any violation especially on the day of elections.
