Baku, March 2 (AZERTAC). Police seized 3.3 tons of cocaine and 25 kilograms of heroin in the northern Colombian port city of Barranquilla that were ready for shipment to Honduras, the largest such seizure made this year nationwide, officials said.

Drug enforcement agents found the cocaine in two containers in the port of Barranquilla early Saturday, President Juan Manuel Santos said.

“Generals, many congratulations for the blow you dealt yesterday or very early this morning. Three, almost three tons of cocaine and about 10 kilos of heroin; that blow was dealt by the drug enforcement agency,” the president said Saturday.

The cocaine “was going to Honduras” and came from southern Colombia, Santos said.

“We cannot let our guard down because that is what finances all those illegal groups; and so, many thanks,” the president said.

The seizure is a small demonstration of the capabilities the police have achieved in the fight against drug trafficking “to which all countries have to be committed,” Santos said.
