COP29 President-Designate: Our goal is to limit global warming to 1.5C

"As the host of COP29, we should set an example for the entire world. For this reason, the work is underway to update the national emission reduction plan. Our goal is to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius," said Mukhtar Babayev, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources and the COP29 President-Designate as he addressed the opening ceremony of the 18th Baku Summer Energy School.
He emphasized that debates on sustainable agriculture, science, water, technology and innovation, sustainable urbanization and health would also be a priority at the COP29.
“We have visited many regions of the world, from Africa to Asia, as well as the small island states of the Caribbean Sea to see the problems of the countries most vulnerable to climate change,” he mentioned.
“The issues to be discussed at the COP29 will help to overcome the obstacles that many countries face while trying to invest in climate action," the minister added.
