DECISION OF SUPREME ELECTION COMMISSION OF TURKEY
As has been reported earlier, the Turkey’s Court of Cassation had made public its decision on ineligibility of participation of the Party of People’s Democracy /PPD/ in the parliamentary elections held November 3 2002. Some 2 million votes for PPD were declared invalid. Following the decision, a number of political parties appealed for the Supreme Election Commission of Turkey to void the results of November 3, 2002 parliamentary elections and to hold reelections. However, the Supreme Election Commission of Turkey stated during its October 3 sitting that there was no need for that.
The opposition parties have taken this decision as a political step and demanded resignation of commission members.
