First vice-speaker of Azerbaijan meets Uruguayan parliament delegation
Baku, November 2 (AZERTAC). First vice-speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament Ziyafet Asgarov has met Uruguayan parliamentarians, who arrived in Baku to take part in the 3rd Baku International Humanitarian Forum.
On the Humanitarian Forum, Asgarov said holding of the event in Azerbaijan was not casual. He said Azerbaijan is a model of tolerance to some countries. Asgarov noted that the peaceful coexistence of a number of nations and religious confessions in Azerbaijan is a unique pattern of tolerance. “All religious confessions are equal before the law and have the same status in frames of the model of state-religion relations of present-day Azerbaijan. Traditions of ethnic minorities are also attached a great deal of attention by the government of Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan enjoys religious tolerance and multiculturalism.”
The vice-speaker said the dynamic economic growth brought a great influence to Azerbaijan in the world. “However, keeping Azerbaijan`s Nagorno-Karabakh territory under occupation by Armenia impedes further development of our country. Despite resolutions by the United Nations, the Council of Europe and European Parliament on liberation of the occupied lands of Azerbaijan, Armenia continues its aggression policy.”
On bilateral relationship, Asgarov said further expanding political and economic ties between Azerbaijan and Uruguay would be useful for both countries. He noted that Azerbaijan is interested in energy cooperation with Uruguay. “Azerbaijan enjoys a favorable investment climate. Major companies of America, Europe and Asia effectively function in Azerbaijan,” Asgarov said.
The vice-speaker expressed hope that Uruguayan companies will soon start cooperating with Azerbaijan. He also suggested creating intergovernmental commission and opening of Uruguayan embassy in Baku.
Head of the Parliamentary delegation Doren Javier Ibara praised Azerbaijan as a real tolerant country. He also shared his impression about hospitability of Azerbaijanis.
The Uruguayan MP said his country supports peaceful resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
