Five killed in bus crash in northwestern Turkey
Baku, February 25 (AZERTAC). Five passengers, four of them Greek citizens, were killed and five others were seriously injured Friday when a bus from Athens, Greece overturned in Turkey`s northwestern province of Tekirdağ.
The crash occurred early Friday, when the bus skidded off a slick road and overturned near the town of Malkara, about 200 kilometers west of its destination, Istanbul. Greece`s Foreign Ministry said a military transport plane was on standby to bring uninjured passengers home, the Associated Press reported.
Greek passengers Solakidis Minos, Moysidis Arkmdros, Mitakidis Fofor and Mariradz Sorfra and Turkish passenger Yaşar Demirer were killed, while the injured passengers were taken to Tekirdağ and Malkara state hospitals.
The driver of the bus, Sadettin Sekmen, survived the accident unharmed and was taken into custody. He said in his testimony that the bus suddenly went out of control, according to a Doğan news agency report.
