FOREIGN MINISTER OF TURKEY VISITING BAKU UNIVERSITY
In his opening remarks, rector of the BDU Abel Maharramov expressed gratitude to the head of MFA of Turkey for visiting the University. The rector updated the guest on the history of the higher educational institution, stressing that the University had famous alumnus. We are proud that the great son the Turkic world, national leader of Azerbaijan President Heydar Aliyev was the alumnus of this University, he underlined.
At words of the rector, last years the University has set contacts with leading institutions of numerous works countries, including Turkey.
Speaking before the gathered, Abdullah Gul gave a comprehensive analysis of the Turkish-Azerbaijani relations, dwelt on the priorities of the foreign policy of his country.
Head of the MFA of Turkey noted that he made his first visit in 2004 to Baku. The Minister stressed particular role of President Heydar Aliyev in development of fraternal relations between the two countries.
He expressed a hope that bilateral relations between the brotherly countries would further develop and enhance. “The Turkish leadership pursues inter-state policy based on conception of Heydar Aliyev”, he emphasized. “I am confident that Ilham Aliyev will do his best for multifaceted development of mutually beneficial strategic relations between Azerbaijan and Turkey”.
At the opinion of Abdullah Gul stressed that leadership of his country supports the position of Baku on the international arena, noting, that Turkey would not establish diplomatic relations with Armenia until the latter will liberate the occupied territories of Azerbaijan. ”Turkey adheres resolution to the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno Karabakh problems peacefully, taking into account territorial integrity of Azerbaijan”, Abdullah Gul underlined.
Then, head of the MFA of Turkey spoke of the foreign policy conception of his country, pointing that the official Ankara would further adhere the policy of peace and stability in the region. At his words, priorities of Turkish policy are: integration to European Union, maintenance of stability in the Caucasus, settlement of the Cyprus problem, establishment of mutually beneficial relations with the new Iraqi leadership and development of the relations with the US, NATO and neighboring countries.
The head of the MFA of Turkey Abdullah Gul was presented memorial volumes dedicated to President Heydar Aliyev, as well as the diploma of honorary doctor of BDU.
Foreign minister of Azerbaijan Vilayat Guliyev, minister of education of Azerbaijan Misir Mardanov, ambassador of Turkey in Azerbaijan Ahmed Unal Chevigoz and representatives of diplomatic missions were participating at the meeting.
