FUIW General Conference opens sixth session in Riyadh
Baku, November 26 (AZERTAC). The General Conference of the Federation of the Universities of the Islamic World (FUIW) convened in a sixth session at Imam Muhammad Ibn Saud Islamic University in the capital of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Riyadh.
The event was held under the patronage of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.
Speaking at the opening of the opening session were Dr Abdulaziz Othman Altwaijri, Secretary General of the Federation, Director General of the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO); Dr Suliman Aba Al-Khail, Chairperson of the FUIW Executive Council, Rector of Imam Muhammad Ibn Saud Islamic University; and Dr Shamsaddin Hajiyev, President of the Federation’s Fifth General Conference (Baku, 2010), Rector of Azerbaijan State Economic University, in the presence of heads of over 120 member universities, along with representatives of organizations, federations and institutions from the Muslim world and beyond.
Agenda items for the sixth General Conference, scheduled for 26 through 28 November this year, feature Activity Report by the Executive Council between the Fifth and Sixth Sessions of the General Conference, Secretary General’s Activity Report for the Period between the Conference’s Fifth and Sixth Sessions, and Financial Report by Secretary General and Report on Redressing Federation’s Financial Situation for 2010-2012.
The Conference will also discuss the Draft Action Plan and Budget for the Three-year Period 2013-2015, along with the Report of the Bureau of the Islamic Body on Quality and Accreditation, and the projects for the establishment of the Islamic Virtual University, the Network for Development of Academic Cooperation and Labour Market, the League of Parallel Universities, the Network of Strategic Planning Experts in the Member Universities, the Centre of University Education and Scientific Research Ethics, and the Authority of Programmes, Students and Faculty Staff Exchange. As well as endorsing the list of universities admitted to the Federation between its fifth and sixth sessions, the General Conference will elect the members of the Executive Council.
For the record, the Federation of the Universities of the Islamic World, currently reporting to ISESCO, was established in 1987.
