Georgia appoints new ambassador to Azerbaijan

George Zakarashvili has been appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to the Republic of Azerbaijan, effective October 1, 2026.
According to Georgia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, George Zakarashvili has many years of experience working at the ministry’s central office and at Georgia’s diplomatic missions.
Zakarashvili’s term as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to Ukraine and Permanent Representative of Georgia to GUAM, which he has held since 2021, will expire on October 1, 2026.
From 2016 to 2019, he served as Minister Plenipotentiary of Georgia at the Section of Interests of Georgia at the Embassy of the Swiss Confederation to the Russian Federation. From 2012 to 2016, he served as Minister Plenipotentiary at the Embassy of Georgia to Ukraine and the Permanent Representation of Georgia to GUAM.
At various times, Zakarashvili also served as Director of the Political Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Head of the Division for Relations with the Countries of Central Asia.
