German army chief elected next chair of NATO Military Committee

Germany's Chief of Defense Gen. Carsten Breuer has been elected as the next chair of NATO's Military Committee, the committee's current chair, Anadolu Agency reported citing Adm. Giuseppe Cavo Dragone.
“Congratulations to General Carsten Breuer, Chief of Defence of the Bundeswehr, on his election as the next Chair of the NATO Military Committee, taking office in July 2027!” Cavo Dragone said in a post on the US social media platform X.
He said the German general would assume the position in July 2027.
"Your operational judgement, your deep familiarity with this Alliance and your leadership of the German Armed Forces will serve NATO well," he added.
Cavo Dragone said NATO's chiefs of defense had placed their trust in Breuer "at a demanding moment for Euro-Atlantic security."
"You will have the full support of the Committee and of the International Military Staff through the transition, and I look forward to working closely with you until the handover," he said.
The NATO Military Committee is the alliance's senior military authority and provides military advice to NATO's political decision-making bodies.
Its chair is NATO's senior military official and principal military adviser to the Secretary General.
Cavo Dragone has served as chair of the committee since January 2025.
