Greek President named Honorary Doctor of Baku Slavic University
Baku, April 6 (AZERTAC). President of Greece Karolos Papoulias has today visited the Baku Slavic University (BSU) where he was awarded an Honorary Doctor Diploma.
Prior to the ceremony on the occasion, the Greek President met rector of BSU Kamal Abdullayev.
Addressing the ceremony, Abdullayev spoke of the history, activity and international relations of the University. He said a Center of Greek Language and Culture was established at the University in 2004.
The rector noted BSU had cooperation with several Greece-based higher education institutions.
Then, Abdullayev read out the decision of the BSU`s Scientific Council to name the Greek President an honorary doctor.
Papoulias made a speech at the ceremony. He thanked the Council for honoring him with the honorary doctor diploma.
The President praised the fact that the Greek language was taught at BSU.
Papoulias also spoke about the Greek science, culture and language.
The Greek leader underlined the necessity of strengthening relations between the two countries` higher education institutions. He also particularly underscored the importance of the Program for cooperation between the governments of Azerbaijan and Greece in the field of science, education and culture for 2011-2013 which was signed Tuesday.
Then, Papoulias familiarized himself with the Center of Greek Language and Culture where he signed the University`s Guest Book.
