From AZERTAC’s “If I Were a Tourist” series: Masalli’s spring water Istisu
Masalli is one of the regions of Azerbaijan known for its fascinating nature. Famous for its mountains and forests, the region is also notable for its healing waters.
Located 13 kilometers from the district center, 1,650 meters above sea level, the well-known Istisu spring, emerges from the rocks at the foot of Mount Dambalov. Since ancient times, the local population has used this water for healing purposes.
The health benefits of the hot spring were first scientifically proven in the 1960s. Mirkazim Aslanli-Sareng, a scholar from Masalli, analyzed the composition of the water and presented scientific evidence of its effectiveness in treating various diseases. His research attracted great interest, prompting further research by other scientists, who confirmed his results.
According to specialists, the hot water is beneficial in treating rheumatism, joint pain, arthrosis, psoriasis, dermatitis, neurodermatitis, gastrointestinal, kidney and urinary tract diseases, as well as radiculitis, prostatitis, hypertension, and liver and biliary tract conditions.
Today, the Istisu spring is a popular destination for both local and foreign tourists, especially in summer. The water flows from the rocks through pipes into pools in the area. As its temperature reaches 60 degrees Celsius, it is not recommended to stay in contact with it for more than 15 minutes.
