Indian representative: Housing costs for low-income families can be reduced
Baku, May 17, AZERTAC
“The urban population faces numerous housing challenges, and housing affordability remains a critical issue. This is mainly due to the limited availability of land in urban areas,” said Shantappa Balappa Honnur, Member of the Council of the Institute of Town Planners, India in New Delhi, in an interview with AZERTAC while participating in the 13th Session of the UN World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku.
He noted that various affordable housing models exist that can significantly reduce and subsidize housing costs for low-income families. “Providing housing globally is a very challenging task, but this challenge can be minimized for low-income groups,” he added.
The Indian representative also emphasized that Azerbaijan is a beautiful country, stating that the urban planning processes implemented there—particularly the use of smart solutions—could contribute positively to improving housing access for low-income families.
