The international conference “Legal Issues and Experience of Application of International Standards for Improvement of Southern Caucasus Water Resources Utilization and Protection Legislation” was held in Tbilisi, Georgia.The Chief Consultant of the scientific-analytical Department of the Ombudsman office in Azerbaijan has delivered the report “Legal Issues of Water Basins Protection and Utilization in Azerbaijan, Ratification of Appropriate International Conventions, and Role of Ombudsman in Protection of Ecological Rights.”He noted the availability of crucial issues in the field of protection of drinking water sources in Azerbaijan, in particular, the pollution of Kur through Araz by toxic wastes in the Armenian territory and lack of due protection of the river in Georgia. Further, the reporter touched upon the occupation of 20% of Azerbaijani lands as a result of Armenian aggression, and toxic pollution of drinking water in these territories. At the same time, A. Safikhanli dwelt upon his institute’s activity directed to protection of ecological human rights.
