Israeli parliament hails tolerance of Azerbaijani society

Baku, December 16 (AZERTAC). A meeting timed to the day of protection of human rights and condition of Jews in Moslem countries took place in Knesset.

The event brought together officials of Israeli government, Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Information, Justice and representatives of the public organizations of Azerbaijan, Turkey, Iran, Yemen, Morocco.

Azerbaijan was represented by director general of Israel-Azerbaijan international association (Aziz) Lev Spivak and member of the board of directors Yegana Salman. Mrs. Salman said the Jews have no problems in Azerbaijan. Despite the fact that Azerbaijani Jews constitute less than 1% of population of the country, they have a member in Milli Majlis - Parliament of Azerbaijan, said Salman.

She said new synagogues, schools, Jewish cultural centers are opened in the capital and other regions of Azerbaijan. The large-scale projects on Jewish culture and education in Azerbaijan are supported by President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and first lady, head of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva, Salman added.
