JUSTICE MINISTER OF AZERBAIJAN VISITING STRASBOURG
On 25 November, the Minister made remarks at the Congress, updating the participants on the measures undertaken in the Republic of Azerbaijan related to the recommendations on Azerbaijan adopted by this structure in May.
The Minister stressed the necessity of rendering assistance by the Council of Europe in realization of practical steps envisaged in the mentioned recommendations. He spoke of the legislative base created in conformity with the international standards, informed on the problems in the development of the local and regional governments and perspectives. In this regard, the Minister also dwelt on the sequences of the Armenian aggression against Azerbaijan.
The Congress members gave a positive assessment to the works done in the Republic, considered necessary to organize efficient arrangements and continue assisting municipalities of Azerbaijan.
In the course of session, Fikrat Mammadov met the Italian minister for regional issues Enriko la Logia and focused the issues of adoption of the Regional Self-government Charter of the Council of Europe. The Italian minister was invited to pay a visit to Azerbaijan.
On 26 November, Minister Fikrat Mammadov met with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe Walter Schwimmer and focused sequences of the judicial reforms in the Republic. The parties had exchange of views on the issues of mutual interest.
Permanent representative of the Republic of Azerbaijan at the Council of Europe, ambassador Agshin Mehdiyev participated at the session and meetings.
