JUSTICE MINISTRY EXPANDS INTERNATIONAL TIES
The conference organized jointly by the Council of Europe and Ministry of Justice of Bulgaria was attended by 40 Justice Ministers of Europe, high-ranking representatives of states-observers and international organizations. Azerbaijan was represented by deputy Minister of Justice Togrul Musayev.
In his address, he spoke of Azerbaijan’s active participation in the anti-terror coalition, measures taken under the guidance of the President of Azerbaijan Republic Heydar Aliyev towards this issue, Azerbaijan’s joining main international conventions concerning the fight against terrorism and making relevant amendments to the national legislation.
He noted that suffering bitter consequences of terrorism Azerbaijan cooperates with foreign countries towards this evil. T. Musayev stressed the importance to stop the policy of double standards. He drew attention of conference participants to the issue of occupation of 20 percent of Azerbaijani territories by the Armenian armed forces and staying of displaced Azerbaijanis in the status of refugees and IDPs, committing of serious crimes by Armenian terrorist organizations. It was noted that occupied territories are used for training of terrorists.
Address of Azerbaijani representative entitled “Principles of International Cooperation in the fight against international terrorism” was distributed among the conference participants in English and Russian.
The conference revolved around the issues on development of legal cooperation between justice bodies in the counter-terrorism and, taking into account the necessity for global implementation of such actions, a resolution on development of the new European Convention was approved.
Within the framework of this event, Azerbaijani side met with Justice Ministers of such European countries as Turkey, Russia, Germany, Austria, Ukraine and Lithuania and exchanged views on wide range of issues.
The conference participants showed a keen interest to upcoming elections in Azerbaijan.
