KAZAKHSTAN APPROVES OIL AND GAS PRODUCTION SAFETY CONTROL PROGRAM
AzerTaj correspondent reports Kazakhstan, the Government has approved the program on development of State system for prevention and elimination of emergencies in 2004-2010. The program is mainly aimed at control safety of oil and gas production says lack of the control in the Caspian Sea and Garachaganak field may result in environmental pollution, cause considerable damage to flora and fauna of Kazakhstan and neighboring countries and application of large ecological penalties to the Republic. The document specially underlines necessity for serious attention to seismic situation in Western and Eastern Kazakhstan, as well.
Kazakhstan intends to bring oil production in 2015 to 150 million tons per year including 100 million tons on the Caspian shelf. Meanwhile, in 2003, oil production in the country made up 51,4 million tons.
