KINGDOM OF NORWAY KEEN IN DEVELOPMENT OF RELATIONS
Greeting the guests, Mr. Khalafov noted that the visit would certainly be useful for strengthening of the friendly relations and business links between the Kingdom of Norway and Azerbaijan. The deputy foreign minister highly appreciated developing the relations between Azerbaijan and Norway in the frame of inter-parliamentary friendship group, as well as in the energy sector, humanitarian and oil fields. He adhered continuation of efficient bilateral cooperation on the international arena. Mr. Khalafov also stressed the necessity of developing cooperation with the Kingdom of Norway in the direction of Azerbaijan’s integration to the Euro-Atlantic structures, in combat against terrorism.
Deputy foreign minister Khalaf Khalafov assessed the 15 October presidential elections in Azerbaijan as the logic continuation of the works carried out for building a civil society in the Country. Noting that government of Azerbaijan attaches great importance the cooperation with the relevant international organizations, the Minister gave a high assessment to the efforts of the representatives of numerous countries and international structures invited to watch presidential elections in the Republic.
In the course of the meeting, Khalaf Khalafov highlighted on the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno Karabakh conflict, on the works done for its settlement, on the activities of the OSCE Minsk Group, as well as underlined the necessity of increasing the efforts for quick resolution of it in the frame of the principles of sovereignty of the states, territorial integrity and inviolability of borders.
State secretary of the foreign ministry of the Kingdom of Norway Kim Traavik stated that he attaches great importance to development of the relations between Norway and Azerbaijan and continuation of these this cooperation, highly assessed the accomplishments Azerbaijan achieved in numerous fields, as well as emphasized the necessity of bilateral cooperation in the frame of international organizations.
Touching upon the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno Karabakh conflict, Kim Traavik expressed a hope for quick peaceful settlement of the problem with the efforts of international community. Another point of the talks was the proposal of intensification of the links in the agricultural sphere.
Noting that Norway supports integration of Azerbaijan Republic to the Euro-Atlantic structures, the guest said this support would be constantly continued. The state secretary informed on the congratulation message the King of Norway Harald V sent to Mr. Ilham Aliyev on his election as President of Azerbaijan Republic.
At the meeting discussed were other issues of mutual interest.
