MASS MEDIA & JUDICIAL AUTHORITY IN LEGAL STATE DEDICATED
The arrangement was organized jointly with the project “Support of judicial and legal reforms in Azerbaijan” of Technical Cooperation Society of Germany (GTZ), OSCE, the Council of Europe and Azerbaijan Press Council.
Mutual issues between the judicial authority and mass media for receiving and transferring of information on judicial processes in Azerbaijan, Germany, Georgia and Russia, as well as issues related to the contradictions between the free press and protection of honor and dignity were discussed at the first day of seminar.
In his opening speech, head of GTZ project Thomas German stated that main aim of the seminar is to hold debates on the problem, its solution and preparation of the recommendations.
Welcoming the guests, head of the socio-political department of Azerbaijan Presidential Administration Ali Hasanov stated that after gaining independence, Azerbaijan undertook some important steps in the field of protection of human rights and freedoms. Independent judicial authority, Press Council were created, some laws adopted and censorship eliminated. Democratic conditions for development of free press were created in the Republic. Unfortunately, some problems are taken place between the judicial authority and mass media. We hope that such arrangements would make positive influence on journalists.
Then, Ambassador of Germany to Azerbaijan Claus Grevlich, head of Baku OSCE office, Ambassador Peter Burkhard, Chairman of the Azerbaijan Press Council Aflatun Amashov, deputies, specialists from Georgia, Russia and Germany made speeches.
The participants touched on problems taken place in some countries between the courts and mass media, as well as protection for receiving of free information.
On December 10, seminar with the participation of the judges of the Constitutional Court, Supreme Court and regional courts, lawyers and journalists will end.
