Medgaz Pipeline Enter Into Effect
Baku, March 2 (AZERTAC). Medgaz gas pipeline, linking Algeria (Beni-Saf) to Spain (Almeria), was put into service Tuesday by Noureddine Cherouati, CEO of Sonatrach and Pedro Miro President of the Board of Directors of Medgaz consortium.
The ceremony, attended by executives of Sonatrach and representatives of various shareholders of Medgaz, was marked by the symbolic opening of the pipeline`s valve. Cherouati said that gas will reach the Spanish city of Almeria after in three hours. This operation, preceded by a testing phase (November 2010-January 2011), embodies the gas supply to the other shore of the Mediterranean to be exploited during the first quarter of 2011, sources said.
