MEETING WITH MINISTER ON NATIONALITIES OF THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION HELD AT AAC

On January 30, was held a meeting at the All-Russia Azerbaijan Congress (AAC) with the minister of nationalities of the Russian Federation Vladimir Zorin.

The meeting attended by representatives of the Azerbaijan Diaspora, known lawyers, and employees of the State Committee of the Azerbaijan Republic on work with the Azerbaijanis living abroad, was opened by Vice-president of AAC, head of the executive apparatus Natig Agamirov. He spoke of achievements of the Congress lately, in particular, has informed the participants on structural transformations, creation of Coordination Council of AAC, new regional branches and working committees, and also about work of the Congress on further consolidation of the Azerbaijan Diaspora. Mr. Agamirov informed in detail on participation of the Azerbaijan Diaspora in parliamentary elections in Russia, underlined that preparation for presidential elections in Russia connected with support of the candidacy of Vladimir Putin started.

He also informed that now, the Congress actively prepares for the visit to Moscow of President of the Azerbaijan Republic Ilham Aliyev within the framework of whom his meeting with representatives of the Azerbaijan Diaspora is supposed. Vice-president also has with satisfaction noted that AAC for the first time as the participant was included in work of the Intergovernmental Russian - Azerbaijan commission on the economic cooperation headed by the first vice-premier of Azerbaijan Abbas Abbasov and the vice-president of the government of the Russian Federation by Victor Christenko.

In turn, the Russian minister on affairs of nationalities Vladimir Zorin has expressed deep satisfaction with the activity of the Congress, having noted, that AAC created as the consolidating and uniting body, successfully carries out problems the Azerbaijan Diaspora facing in Russia, protects its interests at all levels. V. Zorin has assured the attendees that the Congress will be supported henceforth. He also noted that the Azerbaijan Diaspora in Russia takes active part in the political life of Russia, makes its contribution to the development of the Russian society. V. Zorin has cited as an example the statistical data according to which 35 percents of the Azerbaijanis living in Russia, are laboring in the sphere of construction, 12 percents - in the sphere of industry, 15 percents - in the agriculture, 25 percents - in the sphere of services and a number of other vital branches.

Concerning the question of protection of the rights of Azerbaijanis, the Russian minister with the full responsibility has declared, that state policy of Russia and the course, which is dictated by President Vladimir Putin, are directed on suppression of any displays of nationalism and extremism. As he said, it is necessary to continue work on prosecution and criminal punishment of the persons who saw interethnic discord. He expressed satisfaction with active cooperation of AAC with various branches of the government of Russia, having noted, that he, from its part, is ready to render all support to the Congress in the decision of all topical questions.

In conclusion, N. Agamirov on behalf of the government of Azerbaijan has conveyed to minister V. Zorin the invitation on working visit to Azerbaijan. V. Zorin has with satisfaction accepted the invitation and promised to realize the visit to Baku in the nearest months.
