Memorial plaque to National Hero of Azerbaijan unveiled in Kharkiv

A memorial plaque to the National Hero of Azerbaijan Viktor Seregin has been unveiled in Kharkiv after restoration. Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Ukraine Azer Khudiyev, Honorary Consul of Azerbaijan Afgan Salmanov, representative of the Kharkiv City Council Boris Butyrin, author of the memorial plaque Seyfaddin Gurbanov as well as Seregin’s family members attended the ceremony.
Addressing the event, ambassador Khudiyev noted the importance of preserving memory of those who gave their lives for the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. The ambassador expressed gratitude to Seregin`s family and promised to give them necessary support.
The plaque was installed by Dostlug company in 2004 on Viktor Seregin’s house. The plaque was made by People's Artist of Ukraine Seyfaddin Gurbanov.
In April 2017, vandals destroyed the plaque. Later, in accordance with the decision of the Kharkiv City Council, the plaque was restored and installed in its original place.
Victor Seregin was a first class pilot, commander of the MI-8 helicopter, who died on January 28, 1992, while carrying out a task to save civilians in Shusha during the Nagorno-Karabakh war. His crew managed to take hundreds of children out of the war zone.
