MEPs visit Agdam
Agdam, July 16 (AZERTAC). Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) arrived in the region of Agdam as part of their Azerbaijan trip where they were welcomed by employees of the State Committee for Refugee and IDP affairs.
Agdam governor Nizami Sadigov briefed MEPs on the plight of IDPs forced from their lands by Armenian aggression.
Sadigov said as a result of Armenians`s shattering ceasefire 9-year-old Fariz Badalov and 13-year-old girl Aygun were killed.
The European delegation arrived at a new settlement for IDPs in the Guzanly village, which was inaugurated by President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva.
They visited the school No18. The guests saw a photo stand depicting the look of Agdam region before occupation.
MEPs also called at the culture house, which used to be a house for servicemen but was reconstructed as a culture house in accordance with President Ilham Aliyev`s order.
MP Fuad Muradov, who accompanied the delegation, said intensification of visits of Europeans to frontline regions is associated with the increased efforts of the government and NGOs to raise world community`s awareness about the truths on Azerbaijan.
MEP from Portugal Jose Manuel Fernandez expressed his regret over killing of the kids, adding it is `unacceptable`. He vowed to raise this issue in the European Parliament.
Belgian MP Alan Destex underlined he favors the soonest resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh problem. He regretted OSCE Minsk Group fails to achieve positive results.
French MEP Franko said, “we back solution of the dispute based on territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. We are regretful Azerbaijan became a victim of geopolitical games. The European Union must support fair resolution of the problem using its power. Killing of the 13-year-old Aygun by Armenians is a terrible event.”
