Following a two-day visit to Azerbaijan Russian, US and French Minsk group co-chairs gave a press conference at Hyyar Park Hotel on December 6. According to them, the goal of the visit was to familiarize with Azerbaijan new leadership’s stance on Nagorno-Garabakh problem. U.S. co-chair Mr. P. Perina noted that while visiting refugee camp in Baku, they once again were deeply impressed by asperity and pain the conflict had brought to these people. Touching of the delegation’s official meetings in Baku, he stressed the meeting with President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev had reaffirmed invariability of the Heydar Aliyev’s political course regarding this issue.

The co-chairs said no new official proposals on the conflict settlement have been prepared.

Russian co-chair Yuri Merzlyakov reaffirmed Russia’s recognition of the occupation of a part of the Azerbaijan’s land by Armenia. “We think the work on peaceful resolution of the problem must be continued,” he said.

Also present at the pres conference was Ambassador of the United States to Azerbaijan Reno Harnish.
