MM SPEAKER ATTENDS RUSSIAN STATE DUMA JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS
On April 27, Ogtay Asadov attended the opening of memorial plaque and exhibition in Taurida palace on the occasion of establishment of Russian State Duma, and later met with Rene van der Linden, Chairman of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE). They discussed the current state of Azerbaijan-PACE relationship, touched on the re-election to the Milli Majlis scheduled for May 13 and expected to be monitored by numerous international observers, and also exchanged views on a number of other issues of mutual interest.
Afterwards, a ceremonial sitting of the State Duma took place at the Taurida palace. Addressing the participants, Boris Gryzlov, Chairman of State Duma dwelt on history of Russian Parliamentarism, and read out a text of an address to the world Parliaments.
Ogtay Asadov spoke of development of Parliamentarism and its importance in contemporary world. Touching on interparliamentary relations, he stressed the role of international structures in this area. He noted the significance of Parliaments in ensuring human rights and freedoms, building legal and democratic states and tackling global problems.
