MOSCOW IN THE RUN-UP TO OFFICIAL VISIT OF AZERBAIJAN PRESIDENT
According to Information Department of the Russian Government, RF vise-premier, co-Chair of the intergovernmental commission for economic cooperation Victor Khristenko stated that the Azerbaijan-Russia trade and economic relations “create very favorable background for the Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev’s visit to Moscow.” He announced as well that a package of documents covering a wide range of fields for cooperation including both economic and humanitarian spheres.
Mr. Khristenko pointed out the high level of cooperation in fuel-energy sphere, stressing the two countries’ energy systems are successfully operating in parallel mode, Russian oil companies are actively involved in development of energy resources in Azerbaijan sector of the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan is duly supplied with Russian gas etc.
At the same time, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is preparing for negotiations on a number of regional and inter-regional issues, and particular attention will be paid to resolution of the Armenia – Azerbaijan conflict within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group, where co-presides along with USA and France.
According to the RF Forign Ministry’s Department of Information and Press, first deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Vyacheslav Trubnikov stated on the eve of the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev’s visit to Moscow that Russia expects serious advancements in the peace process in 2004. “Russia, both on bilateral basis and jointly with USA and France as Minsk Group co-Chair, will do its best for this new stage of the negotiations to began as soon as possible,” he said.
Altogether, Russia’s mass media pay great attention to the forthcoming visit by the Head of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, pointing out serious warming of Azerbaijan-Russia relations. In experts’ opinion, a new stage in Azerbaijan-Russia bilateral relations is to begin, and the President Ilham Aliyev’s visit will answer many questions concerning development of the bilateral relations between the two countries, and determine trends of cooperation in all spheres.
