MoU signed between UNESCO and BDU presented
Baku, December 15 (AZERTAC). Presentation of the Memorandum on mutual understanding, signed between UNESCO and the Baku State University took place here yesterday.
Rector of BSU, MP, academician Abel Maharramov spoke of importance of the development of bioethics, teaching and propagation of this discipline in country. Having noted that last years communications between Azerbaijan and UNESCO have extended, A. Maharramov especially underlined merits in this question of the president of Heydar Aliyev Foundation, UNESCO and ISESCO Goodwill Ambassador Mehriban Aliyeva.
It was noted that carrying out of tests of basic courses of UNESCO on bioethics in BDU for the first time was offered by Mehriban Aliyeva at the 18th session of the International Committee of UNESCO on bioethics, held current year in Baku at the initiative of the First Lady of Azerbaijan.
Within the conference at a meeting with the UNESCO deputy general director Pilar Alvarez Laso the Minister of Education Misir Mardanov said that supports bioethics teaching in Azerbaijan. He noted that in 2012 at University`s faculty of law the “bioethics and medical law” discipline will be taught or the chair with the same name is to be opened.
The first secretary of the National Commission of Azerbaijan on UNESCO Gunay Efendiyeva stressed importance of the Memo signed between BDU and UNESCO, underlining that the University already is considered the partner of the main office of the organization in Baku. BDU will take part in various projects of UNESCO.
It was noted that according to the Memo, within the academic program, the University will take part in test of courses of UNESCO on bioethics, and the Organization, in turn, will render all assistance to University in this question.
For effective implementation of this agreement, the Institute of Human Rights of National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan (ANAS) and BDU signed a Memo on understanding. The document was signed by the director of institute, MP Ayten Mustafayeva and BDU`s rector A. Maharramov. The Memo along with cooperation in the field of science and education, based on the general interests, also reflects interaction details in sphere of bioethics and medical law. In the document it is planned to bring in the curriculum of University the teaching of bioethics in 2011-2014s.
