“NO FACTOR CAN REDUCE SIGNIFICANCE OF AZERBAIJAN FOR US”
On 7 November, at the Baku State University was held a meeting with the ex-adviser for national security issues to the US President, well-known socio-political figure, prominent politologist Zbignew Bzezhinski.
Rector of the university informed on his biography, noting that taking into account great contributions of Mr. Zbignew Bzezhinski in the field of strengthening of peace and tranquility over the world, friendship and cooperation among the peoples, human rights protection, progress of democracy, as well as development of science, in particular, political sciences, the great Academic Council of the University decided to confer him with the rank of honorary doctor of the Baku State University. The rector presented him the Diploma of honorary Doctor and mantle. Also was presented to the guest books on Heydar Aliyev, Baku University, other gifts manufactured in the view of Azerbaijan national musical instruments – tar, kamancha and saz.
Mr. Zbignew Bzezhinski, expressed his gratitude for warm reception, noting that he was well aware of the ongoing processes in Azerbaijan, realization after gaining independence efforts laid on the path of determination and achieving national goals. He was for long years watching on the Soviet Union, the guest stressed and he was convinced that the said Union was not a commonwealth, but an empire, and that the USSR fell because of historical reasons, that progress of the Central Europe went quicker that in the republic of the former USSDR, dwelt on the role of NATO in the present world, its extension in Europe, expressed a confidence that Azerbaijan would become a NATO member.
Asked whether normalization of the US-Iran relations would weaken the friendly and cooperation links between Azerbaijan and United States, the guest said: “No factor can reduce significance of Azerbaijan for the United States. Azerbaijan has an important geo-strategic position in the region”.
Then, Mr. Zbignew Bzezhinski responded to the questions of the ceremony participants.
