OSCE SATISFIED WITH PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS IN GEORGIA
OSCE Secretariat in Vienna published a statement of the head of foreign affairs, which says on satisfaction with Presidential elections in Georgia, as well as expresses hope that newly elected President, leader of the political parties and the public would adhere principles of democracy and join efforts for economic and social development of the country.
Mr. Passy stressed the importance of preservation of the territorial integrity and national unity of Georgia as main precondition for democratization of the country and stability on the Southern Caucasus region. The statement says that OSCE jointly with other important international institutions do every possible to continue assistance in perfection of current political situation in Georgia and preparation to the Parliamentary elections.
Simultaneously, head of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Bruce George stated that there were no irregularities in the course of voting, the process of elections held under the atmosphere of tranquility and benevolence. Mr. George noted that main drawback of the elections is that Saakashvili has no opponents, and added that Parliamentary elections planned for spring has to be more serious test for democracy.
