Pakistani media highlights Baku Climate Action Week

The Diplomatic Insight, a pioneering media and public diplomacy platform of Pakistan, has published an article headlined “Baku Climate Action Week: Bridging the Gap From Pledges to Action” highlighting Baku Climate Action Week held in Baku on September 7–11.
The article, authored by Khayala Mammadova, Chair of the Global Cooperation and Analytical Research Center at PU, mentioned that building on the successes of Baku Climate Action Week (BCAW) 2024 and 2025 and the legacy of COP29, Baku Climate Action Week (BCAW) 2026 was held in Baku from September 7 to 11, 2026, and organized concurrently with UNFCCC Climate Week 4.
“BCAW 2026—one of the leading international platforms for climate dialogue, partnerships, and practical implementation—brought together policymakers, business leaders, investors, researchers, academics, civil society, youth, cities, local and indigenous communities, and international organizations to accelerate the implementation of the Paris Agreement and national climate commitments. With an international perspective and significant regional importance, Baku Climate Action Week 2026 brought together a diverse and inclusive group of participants representing Azerbaijan, the wider region, and countries from across the globe. Participants aimed to exchange knowledge and experiences, strengthen partnerships, help attract investment, and develop innovative solutions that support climate-resilient, low-carbon development,” the article said.
“Azerbaijan has long established the foundations for sustainable development and an ecological civilization, accumulating substantial scientific, educational, and managerial expertise. Today, the green transition is a defining feature of the nation’s energy policy. By simultaneously advancing traditional energy security and renewable energy infrastructure, Azerbaijan maintains a distinct strategic advantage in the global energy landscape.
In the realm of digitalization for climate action, practical steps are being taken to improve the energy efficiency of digital infrastructure as part of implementing the “Green Digital Action” declaration.
Artificial intelligence and innovative digital transformation are being deployed to optimize water and land management in agriculture and to expand opportunities for farmers. Furthermore, through the “Baku Call to Action”—based on the outcome document of the World Urban Forum (WUF13)—decisive steps are being taken to channel financial resources directly to municipal governments and to build inclusive, green, and highly resilient “Smart Cities” capable of withstanding climate shocks.
Azerbaijan’s hosting of COP29 elevated the country’s role in the global climate process to a new level. Hosting COP29 in Baku served as a significant indicator of Azerbaijan’s international credibility. Within this prestigious event, Azerbaijan not only served as host but also helped foster dialogue among states with differing views, strengthen mutual understanding, and build consensus.
Baku’s role as a forum for dialogue between East and West, and between developed and developing nations, has become another manifestation of Azerbaijan’s multifaceted diplomacy. Key outcomes of COP29 include the agreement on climate finance, the development of carbon market mechanisms, and the progress achieved regarding loss and damage,” the article emphasized.
