Panamanian Minister: Ensuring social infrastructure is our most important priority
Baku, May 20, AZERTAC
“Currently, the most important priority is ensuring social infrastructure, and the development of national spatial planning documents has been identified as a key priority to avoid the repetition of existing problems,” said Jaime Antonio Jované Castillo, Panama's Minister of Housing and Territorial Ordering, in his remarks at the panel discussion entitled "Two Regions, One Agenda: Lessons for Inclusive Urban Regeneration" held as part of the WUF13.
The minister emphasized that in earlier periods, development projects across the country were often implemented in a fragmented way, without considering limitations or evaluating the availability of social infrastructure.
He said the current objective is to develop spatial planning and delegate its management to local governments, including municipalities, districts, and city councils, adding that this approach would help preserve the social features, uniqueness, and cultural identity of each region, which is exactly what the country seeks to restore and protect.
