PREPARATION TO PRESIDENT ELECTIONS IN RUSSIA STARTS
Since December 11, 2003, candidates may be nominated for elections. The relevant address to the Central Election Committee of Russia on registration of the group of voters created for support of the Presidential contender and other electoral documents have to be submitted until January 1, 2004. Nomination of the Presidential contenders from the political parties and electoral blocs has to be held until January 6, 2004.
At December 11 sitting of the Central Election Committee, adopted was a relevant resolution and a plan of arrangements on preparation and conducting the Presidential elections approved.
According to the legislation of the Russian Federation, the Presidential contenders have to gather no less than 2 million signatures of citizens.
On the same time, Parties and blocks that won at the Parliamentary Elections on December 7 were freed from gathering signatures.
Election campaign starts from the day of candidate nomination and lasts up to March 13.
Results of the elections have to be announced until March 25, 2004.
If on results of the elections, no one of the registered candidates gather relevant votes, then, on April 4, in accordance with the Federal law, the re-election will be held.
