Presentation on Azerbaijan held at Hiroshima University
Tokyo, November 11 (AZERTAC). Peace Researches Institute of the Hiroshima University has hosted a presentation on Azerbaijan. The presentation was made by Azerbaijan’s Ambassador in Tokyo Gursel Ismayilzade.
The Ambassador said Azerbaijan has turned into a democratic country with stable political system thanks to successful reforms as well as considerable work carried out by the Azerbaijani government.
He noted the Gross Domestic Product in the country grew up several times, as well as favorable investment climate was created during the presidency of Ilham Aliyev.
The Ambassador also provided an insight in to the presidential election which took place in Azerbaijan on October 9.
Ambassador Ismayilzade noted the elections were free, just, and transparent.
Mr. Ismayilzade said a number of international organizations as well as independent observers praised the election process as excellent.
He noted the presidential election in the country was held in line with democratic standards, adding it marked high voter turnout and wide application of advanced technologies.
The Ambassador highlighted Azerbaijan’s history, and economic policy.
He stressed that Azerbaijan plays a key role in ensuring global energy security.
The Ambassador hailed the government’s attention to developing the non-oil sector in the country, saying there was great potential in the fields of industry, tourism, agriculture, as well as in the renewable and non-renewable energy resources sector.
He noted Azerbaijan has justified itself as a reliable partner in the international relations system, saying the election of the country to the UN Security Council as a non-permanent member for 2012-2013 years is yet another evidence of this.
The Ambassador also spoke of the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, particularly the occupation of 20% of the country`s lands by Armenia and expulsion of over 1 million Azerbaijanis from their homes.
A documentary reflecting Azerbaijan’s history, culture, art, cuisine, ethnic dances, carpets and tourism potential was demonstrated at the event.
Issues of “IRS” magazine in Japanese were presented to participants.
