Presentation on Azerbaijan sparks great interest among Japanese parliamentarians

Azerbaijan’s ambassador to Japan Gursel Ismayilzade has made a presentation on Azerbaijan during his meeting with members of the Japan-Azerbaijan Inter-Parliamentary Friendship League which aroused great interest among the Japanese MPs.
Chairman of Japan-Azerbaijan Inter-Parliamentary Friendship League and Member of the House of Representatives of the Japanese Parliament Akira Amari and 15 members of the League attended the event.
Amari hailed the bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Japan, describing Azerbaijan as the most reliable partner of Japan in the region. Recalling that the Japan-Azerbaijan Inter-Parliamentary Friendship League was established during national leader Heydar Aliyev's visit to Japan in 1998, he hailed the continuous development of relations between the two countries. Amari underlined that Azerbaijan is rapidly developing under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev.
Ambassador Ismayilzade highlighted Azerbaijan’s geographical position, ancient and rich history. He briefed the audience on the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Azerbaijan’s history of independence and the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, which was established on May 28, 1918, and which was the first secular democratic Republic in the whole Muslim world. The ambassador said that under the relevant Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, a series of events have been held in the country and throughout the world to mark the centenary of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic.
He highlighted the ongoing democratic, political and legal and socio-economic reforms in the country. Ambassador Ismayilzade recalled the April 11 presidential election, noting that President Ilham Aliyev was elected as head of the Republic of Azerbaijan by winning more than 86 percent of votes.
Ismayilzade also mentioned prestigious international events, sporting tournaments and cultural programs hosted by Azerbaijan.
He pointed to the excellent organization of the Formula 1 Grand Prix, 1st European Games, 4th Islamic Solidarity Games and other competitions, and stressed the significant contributions of First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva in this regard.
