President of Azerbaijan: ‘This year we shall continue to create new jobs’
Baku, January 11, AZERTA C
‘As a result of the measures taken, we shall continue to create new jobs and this year. In 2017, we created 221,000 jobs, including 177,000 permanent ones. This is a very good indicator. I believe that this is a record figure for the number of jobs created in recent years’, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev said at the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers dedicated to the results of socio-economic development of 2017 and objectives for the future.
‘Very serious steps have been taken in connection with the social infrastructures that cover new jobs. Demographic situation in Azerbaijan is very positive. The number of population rises what demands opening new jobs’, the President said. ‘Since 2004, we have opened more than 2 million new jobs. Creation of new jobs should be adequate to the rising number of population. At the same time, the creation of 177,000 permanent jobs also provides ample opportunities for keeping the level of unemployment in the country at a low level. I should note that at the end of 2017, unemployment in Azerbaijan was at the level of 5 per cent and poverty at 5.4 per cent. I believe that this is one of the best results on a global scale’.
