President of Lithuania visits S Caucasus
Vilnius, April 28 (AZERTAC). Lithuanian President Grybauskaite next week will be visiting the South Caucasian republics. The visit is realized in the frame of Lithuania`s OSCE presidency and will be regular efforts to render influence on settlement of the territorial conflicts in the S Caucasus.
D. Grybauskaite`s aide Linas Balsis expressed hope the Lithuanian president will be able to stimulate a dialogue between the conflict sides. The presidential aide named concrete conflicts, noting, for example, Georgia and S Ossetia “should not cut gas or water of each other” and refrain from complicating their life and relations, for elementary questions.
Touching upon the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, Balsis called on the conflicts sides to withdraw their snipers from the troops contact line.
As known, the Lithuanian president has stated at the OSCE Permanent Council that the efforts made for regulation of protracted conflicts are of great importance for the Organization. He said he would use his Caucasus visit “to strengthen confidence building atmosphere”.
Commented his President`s coming visit, Balsis said: “During the coming visit to these complicated countries the President will make efforts to start dialogue and cooperation between the political leaders of these countries, communication relations among the people, which is the major task of the mediators”.
