I was saddened to hear on my return from holidays, the sad news of passing away of His Excellency Heydar Aliyev.
President Heydar Aliyev’s death is moment loss for Azerbaijan and its people. He gave Azerbaijan the political and economic stability and his policies were devoted to eradicate poverty and bring peace and harmony in the country, in brief, he was a symbol of Azerbaijan’s recognition in the world.
Mr. Heydar Aliyev was pioneer of Pakistan-Azerbaijan friendship and a great friend of Pakistan. People of Pakistan fondly remember his visit to our country and the tree planted by him on the Shakar Paryan Hills in Islamabad is considered as a tree of friendship.
I, as former Ambassador of Pakistan to Azerbaijan having the honor of meeting him on several occasion, I vividly remember that he always recollected good memories of his visit to Pakistan and the close friendship between the two brotherly countries.
I pray to Almighty Allah rest his soul in eternal peace and give strength to President Ilham Aliyev and other members of his family to bear this irreparable loss. I also pray for President Ilham Aliyev success and hope you could lead Azerbaijan to progress and prosperity.
