PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS HELD IN FREE, DEMOCRATIC AND TRANSPARENT ATMOSPHERE
Participation of over 71 percent of electors is directly connected to the conditions created for holding elections in democratic, transparent and fair atmosphere and succession of President Heydar Aliyev’s political course. Ali Ahmadov noted that 600 thousand people participated in the election campaign conducted by Ilham Aliyev and over 3,2 million in actions conducted by his close supporters.
Touching upon some violations of law committed by opposition executive secretary noted that members of PFA, Musavat, NIPA, and DPA represented in election commissions being fully aware of their candidate’s failure committed illegal actions in order to change the situation. Having violating the requirements of the Election Code, opposition parties’ representatives agitated the electors coming to polling stations and tried to exert pressure upon them. Some facts unveil attempts of opposition to create confrontation. Foreknowing their defeat, opposition activists called for violate change of election returns, which reaffirms that their actions are not complied with law requirements.
A. Ahmadov reminded that in accordance with the Election Code the agitation stops 24 hours prior to elections. However, presidential candidate from “Musavat” party Isa Gambar who got used to break the Election Code requirements remained unchanged as he was interviewed on the State TV channel “Sahar-2” for half an hour. The agitation 24 hours prior to elections is banned by the Election Law and airing of Isa Gambar’s propaganda on Sahar-2 which is broadcast to the certain part of Azerbaijan can be reportedly rated not only as an interference in the course of election campaign but also a fact of close relationship between Isa Gambar and certain political circles of Iran.
Executive secretary also reported on some violations committed in the course of the election process by opposition representatives, in particular, propaganda articles issued in “Yeni Musavat” newspaper founded by Isa Gambar on October 14-15.
A. Ahmadov stated that all illegal actions of opposition who cast doubt on presidential elections held in free, democratic and transparent atmosphere, would be prevented.
